Oct 15, 2000

Hello everyone. I have made a few small changes yesterday. I changed the logo at the top of the page. This one fits with the page a bit better.

I also discontinued many of my affiliate programs. They were not making any money and were using up space that could be used for something else.
I kept Avast, as I feel it is a great antivirus program. If you like it and wish to purchase the full version, click on my link on the right side of the pages. Yes, I will make a little bit on it, and your is greatly appreciated.

I ran across a new spyware removal tool from Everest Labs. It is called SpyDefense. Right now it is a Beta version and with any beta, you might find a few glitches. I have installed and run it on 2 of my computers and few of my friend's computers. So far no problems.

This program will run when Windows runs and will give you constant protection from spyware. If you have a broadband connection, and leave your computer on, it will update every night and scan your computer every night for malware and remove it. So far I like the program, as it found a couple things on my computer that all the others had missed.

Thats all for now...............Fran

Spyware, Adware, Trojan, Virus Prevention and Removal

I don't know about you, but I can not stand for anything to be put on my computer without my asking.I will be describing for you what I do to prepare a new system or a clean OS install for Internet use. Prevention is always the best medicine and with the free programs from the Internet I use, you should be able to safely surf the Internet and send and receive email with little worry.

Also, after protecting your new system,, or cleaning your system - please make sure you have an antivirus program and a firewall installed. The two I recommend for real time protection are:

Avast Antivirus and Zone Alarm- Firewall  - both have free versions

Links to both can be found below.

Tutorials

Prevention - New system or clean install

Removal - Cleaning an infected system

Programs I use

Also be sure to update Internet Explorer and Outlook Express to Version 6. Some of SpywareBlaster's features will not work on older versions of IE. You can access the Windows Update feature within your operating system or you can go to the Microsoft website and the access the Windows Update on the left side of the page. This will get you to all the updates you need for your computer. Update Internet Explorer first, then work on installing the rest of the updates.

If you need Windows XP SP2, you can order a free copy of the CD here.

And while I have your attention, you will notice links on the left for FireFox and ThunderBird - Mozilla email client and web browser. If you want to get rid of the security issues with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, eliminate popups and get a goo junk mail filter to boot, consider changing to these programs. There will be a bit of a learing curve, but I tell you anything that makes my Internet experience better is worth learning to use. I am using both programs and will never look back.
